Sad story about Sherman Griffin, the young man to whom the park is dedicated (see photo of park entrance). At just twenty-three years of age he was working for the city, mowing the park, and was attacked and killed by a swarm of bees! I think the odds of that happening are about like getting hit by lightning, but as always those who are allergic should come prepared with countermeasures.

This is a sweet little park that doesn't seem to get much business, but it's nice and shady and has fishing access to the Colorado River, and it's just north of downtown La Grange just off the Houston-Austin highway. Picnic tables, restrooms, BBQ pits, and a volleyball court - bring your own net.

Really pretty little hidden jewel, though, if you're looking for a picnic spot while passing through, or if you live here...
